More Choices for Getting Important Vaccines
September 20, 2013 -
You can now obtain the flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines as an in-network medical benefit from a CVS, Rite Aid, Target or Walgreens Pharmacy located in the CareFirst service area of Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia.
You will be responsible for any applicable copayments or deductibles in accordance with your benefit plan when you choose from any of the locations listed below. Be sure to call ahead to ensure your PCP, pharmacy or retail clinic has a supply of the vaccine you need. Availability of each vaccine is specific to the provider.
- In-Network Retail Pharmacies
Visit any CVS, Rite Aid, Target or Walgreens Pharmacy located in Maryland, DC or Northern Virginia to get a flu, shingles or pneumonia vaccine. The pharmacist will submit a claim according to your medical benefit plan.
- In-Network Retail Clinics
You can visit a Minute Clinic or Target Clinic located in Maryland, DC or Northern Virginia to get a flu, shingles or pneumonia vaccine. The provider will submit a claim according to your benefit plan.
- Your Doctor's Office
You can visit your doctor’s office to get the flu, shingles or pneumonia vaccines and the physician will submit the claim for you.
You can also receive a vaccine at a retail pharmacy or a retail clinic that does not participate in the CareFirst Medical Networks. If you visit a non-participating provider, you would be responsible for submitting a medical claim form, along with an itemized receipt that includes the cost of the drug and the administration fee. Medical claim forms are available on www.carefirst.com. Click on Forms section in the For Members section. You may be asked to pay the full price of the vaccine(s) at the time of service.
Check with your physician or primary care provider if you have questions about whether to receive a vaccine, as there may be age and condition restrictions.
