CareFirst Launches Updated Provider Directory

The improved tool boasts a new look, offers better search experience

Baltimore, MD (August 11, 2016) - CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) recently launched the first in a series of updates to the company’s provider directory, making it easier for customers to find information about their health care providers.

The new "Find a Doctor" directory now includes consolidated, searchable information about medical and mental health providers in CareFirst’s service area and dental and vision care providers nationwide. Customers are no longer directed to different sites to find mental health or vision care providers who can treat them.

This fall, CareFirst plans to add to its website a new directory of medical and mental health providers nationwide. At the time of completion early next year, the new directory will be the one place members and visitors of www.carefirst.com can go to search for national providers of medical, dental, vision and mental health care services as well as in-network pharmacy information.

The new provider directory will differentiate between in- and out-of-network providers, highlight primary care physicians participating in CareFirst’s Patient-Centered Medical Home program, and include other provider quality information. It will be available on computers, tablets and smartphones.

To see the new Find a Doctor directory, log into My Account or click on the Find a Doctor link from the CareFirst.com homepage. Users will first be asked about the type of care they need before searching by location, specialty and type of health plan/network. The list of providers can be filtered by name, gender, language, certification and affiliation. Users will also have access to a map display of facility locations to help find the provider near them or the one seeking treatment.
