Methadone Maintenance Therapy Available from Any Licensed Provider

Baltimore, MD (December 01, 2015) - Effective December 1, 2015, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, Inc. (CareFirst) members can obtain methadone maintenance therapy as an in-network medical benefit from any licensed provider of methadone treatment services.*

Receiving treatment

A prescription or doctor’s order is required to obtain methadone maintenance treatment.

You will be responsible for any applicable copayments or deductibles in accordance with your benefit plan when you receive methadone maintenance therapy in the following settings:

  • In-network licensed methadone maintenance treatment providers - Providers will submit claims for services administered according to your medical benefit plan.
  • Out-of-network licensed methadone maintenance treatment providers - You will be responsible for submitting a medical claim form, along with an itemized receipt that includes the services received and the administration fee. You may be asked to pay for services received at the time of service.
