CareFirst Receives Two Brand Excellence Awards
Recognition highlights innovation and providing quality customer service to members
Baltimore, MD (April 8, 2013) - CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) announced today that it has received two 2012 Brand Excellence Awards from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) for overall member retention efforts and innovative design of its HealthyBlue insurance product. The annual awards honor Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that excel in developing and enhancing the overall Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand.
CareFirst was awarded a Brand Excellence Award in the “Brand Innovation” category for HealthyBlue, a product launched in 2010 with the goal of creating relationships between patients and their primary care physicians that lead to better health outcomes. HealthyBlue offers CareFirst members a portfolio of health care plans that enhance care coordination through primary care visits, wellness incentives, and access to free preventive health care services.
The BCBSA Brand Innovation award recognizes innovative programs that provide measurable impact to customers and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield brands.
CareFirst was also awarded a 2012 Brand Excellence Award in the “Member Retention” category for having high member retention over the past year. CareFirst is the largest health insurer in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia region, serving 3.4 million members.

This marks the 18th year BCBSA has presented Brand Excellence Awards to Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies nationwide in categories that promote the Blue Brands, including attracting new customers, fostering loyalty to existing customers, and Brand innovation. CareFirst has received 11 Brand Excellence Awards.
