We want to help you maintain your best possible health throughout your pregnancy. Here is some information to help you prepare:
Personal Support During Your Pregnancy
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, our care management program can provide you with extra support at no cost. Once you enroll, your nurse care manager will meet with you 1:1 by phone to answer your questions, connect you to resources and help you understand and follow your provider’s orders. Enroll today by calling 888-264-8648, Option 3 or by filling out this contact form.
Breastfeeding Support
Lactation consultants provide expecting and new parents with comprehensive breastfeeding education, support, counseling and more. They’ll help you understand and establish a lactation plan that’s best for you and your baby. Learn more about this benefit or how to connect with a lactation consultant with CloseKnit.
Additionally, if you will need a breast pump, you can use this resource to find and order one prior to delivery. You’ll need to enter your CareFirst member ID information to see which options are covered under your benefits. Supplies such as milk storage bags, nursing bras or creams are not covered.
Behavioral Health Support
Pregnancy sometimes comes with feelings of sadness, mood swings, anxiety and trouble sleeping. CareFirst’s Behavioral Health team is here to help. Whether you’re coping with your pregnancy or adjusting to motherhood, our licensed care management professionals are available to assist you in navigating a variety of helpful tools, including:
- Headway (therapy appointment scheduling)
- Substance abuse services
We’ve compiled a list of providers who specialize in providing behavioral health services to women during their pregnancy. You may also connect with a therapist or psychiatrist from the comfort of your home using CloseKnit.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 or contact the CareFirst support line at 800-245-7013.
Health Education
Our online pregnancy center includes interactive tools and a wealth of information about pregnancy, labor and delivery, newborn care and postpartum depression.
Choose a Pediatrician
Ask your doctor, as well as family, friends and neighbors, for recommendations. Visit our provider directory to make sure the doctor participates in your health plan.
Update Your Health Insurance Plan
Once your baby is born, you must add your child to your policy within a certain timeframe as determined by your employer or your health insurance carrier. Make sure you understand those rules and the procedure for adding your baby to your health plan before you give birth.
