Some CareFirst Members to Receive MLR Rebates

July 12, 2013 - Some CareFirst members will qualify for rebates under the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that health insurers spend a minimum percentage of the premiums they collect every calendar year on health care services and certain quality improvement activities for their members. This percentage is called the Medical Loss Ratio (MLR). Eligible individuals who had coverage in 2012 under CareFirst’s high-deductible Catastrophic Health Plan from the CareFirst of Maryland, Inc. affiliate should receive a rebate check before the end of July. In addition, some members covered under Small Group Employer plans in the District of Columbia and Virginia may qualify for new or additional rebates for the 2011 Calendar Year.
