Statement from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield President and CEO Regarding the Supreme Court’s Ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Baltimore, MD (June 28, 2012) - "Today’s decision by the Supreme Court upholding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is historic and allows the country to move forward towards the goal of providing health care coverage to all Americans. CareFirst has been a supporter of the legislation from the beginning. To date, we have implemented all provisions required in the law and now look forward to implementing the full extent of the law as we move toward 2014 and beyond. Seeking the broadest coverage for as many people as possible has always been the centerpiece of CareFirst’s mission and we believe the Court’s decision gives greater impetus to our mission. We look forward to working with State, Local and Federal law makers and regulators on the remaining work to be done and to the fulfillment of the purposes embodied in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act."
