CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Wins Best of Blue Award for 15 Consecutive Years
Company's Federal Employee Program honored for service excellence
Baltimore, MD (August 15, 2012) - CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) has received for the 15th consecutive year the BlueCross and BlueShield Association's Best of Blue Award in recognition of excellent customer service for members of the Federal Employee Program. This year's award continues the company's record streak and was one of six service awards presented to CareFirst Federal Employee Program (FEP) employees in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Charleston, W.Va.
The FEP Excellence Awards are presented annually by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) to honor member plans that provide excellent service to federal employees. The awards focus on the service profile, strategic profile, claims and customer service performance, keeping benefit and administrative costs low, and growing membership.
CareFirst FEP has about 600,000 members and processed more than 10 million claims in 2011.
"Not every Blues plan receives an award each year, but CareFirst has for 15 straight years and that is a reflection of the people who deliver the service and the team they represent," said Fred Plumb, CareFirst Senior Vice President of the Federal Employee Program. "This year's past performance was challenging because on top of providing the best service to our customers, we took on Medicare Fee Schedule Adjustments and additional inquiries due to calls related to federal health reform."
CareFirst FEP won the following awards:
- Best of Blue Plan Excellence Award;
- Excellence Service Profile for Maryland service area;
- Excellence Service Profile for D.C. service area;
- Strategic Profile for D.C. service area;
- Shirley Davis, first place for individual achievement; and,
- Vinny Emerson, runner-up for individual achievement.
