Unauthorized Email Falsely Claiming That it is From “Blue Cross Blue Shield”

An unauthorized viral email that appears to be from “Blue Cross Blue Shield” or “BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama” is currently circulating and was received by at least one member.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, Inc. did not author this email or authorize its release. In addition, BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama has issued their own statement regarding the email.

This particular email message may include the following information:

Subject: FW: A message from Blue Cross Blue Shield
A Message From Blue Cross Blue Shield To ALL AMERICANS …
November 6, 2012 will be the most important date that will affect the rest of your life .
The Choice Is Yours.

Look clearly at the 2014 rate compared to the 2013 rate.

For those of you who are on Medicare, read the following. It's short, but important and you probably haven't heard about it in the Mainstream News:

"The per person Medicare Insurance Premium will increase from the present Monthly Fee of $96.40, rising to:
$104.20 in 2012
$120.20 in 2013 And
$247.00 in 2014."

Action to Take

If you happen to receive the email, please keep in mind:

  • The email is a hoax and unauthorized by CareFirst.
  • Information about Medicare changes for 2013, when announced, will be available at www.Medicare.gov.

In addition, we ask that you:

  • Do not click on any links that might be within the email.
  • Do not call any phone numbers that may be listed on the email.
  • Do not respond to the email with any confidential information.

In the event you have responded to the email, you should contact the Attorney General’s office in the jurisdiction in which you reside.
